Ostrich Festival

I was able to talk Skylar into taking us to the Ostrich Festival that was held in Chandler this weekend and we had so much fun! Of course it seemed like all of Arizona was there, but it really wasn't too bad.
We went straight over to see the demolition derby and because there were so many people and not enough bleacher seats, we both had kids on our shoulders so they could see.

I had to raise the camera above my head to get pictures of the derby but I got a few good ones. All the cars are lining up getting ready to crash into each other.

Let the crashing begin! That cop car turned out to be one of the best cars out there. The lights were flashing the whole time too.

What a mess! It's exactly like real-life bumper cars. A lot of cars would get smashed several times in a row and then be stuck in the mud.

They had to stop the derby a couple of times due to small fires. By the time the fire crew drove over, the fire was out and they starting crashing again.

This car obviously lost. His car wasn't drivable, so they had everyone leave the arena and they brought in tractors to push him out. One car drove out of the arena with only three tires!

After the first round of the derby, the kids were getting antsy so we headed over to see the Ostriches. This one was "the mean one" and would try to bite everybody. The camera guy was from some nature show or magazine and the Ostrich wouldn't leave him alone. I did make for some good footage though.

While we waited for the Ostrich races to begin, they had a jousting show. This guy came out and posed for several pictures before the show but it turns out he was just the announcer knight. It was a pretty well choreographed jousting show.

Ostrich jockeys! How would you like that job description? It was hilarious! A young boy, probably 12, won the race! They also had emu and chicken races.

While they were getting ready for another race they had their trained zebra, Rafiki, come out and do a few tricks. He was on a teeter-totter and then rolled a barrel on the ground. My kids thought it was Marty from Madagascar.

I didn't think it could get any better, but when they brought the camels out, I changed my mind! How would you like to be a Camel Jockey? The jockey's even dressed up as Arab's and tried talking with an accent. Those suckers can run!! (the camels)

The Ostrich Festival turned out to be a lot of fun! I hope we will make it there again next year.

Random Fun

Maylee is now 5 weeks old and is now becoming more alert. Her eyes are starting to lighten up and I'm thinking that they might end up light blue like Daisy's. She's fattening up nicely and has the cheeks to prove it.

Daisy is in to doing things herself now. These are Slade's sunglasses and this is how she always wears them.

Slade bit his lip and decided he needed a bandaid. He climbed onto his bathroom counter, opened the medicine cabinet and applied the bandaid all by himself!

Cowgirl Daisy! I love how the horse is looking at her.

Cowboy Slade. That is the same vest Skylar wore as a kid! Not sure about the boots, but Slade loves them!

This is Maylee thinking. She's going to be our genius child.

This is hard to see, but Slade wrote his name for the first time by himself outside with chalk. I personally love the "E".

Many Faces of Daisy

We love our Daisy girl! She found this headband and didn't want help putting it on. You know, she IS almost 2! She keeps us laughing and is such a joy!

The Pope Hat

This has been dubbed The Pope Hat. Its a newborn size hat, but she has yet to be newborn size.

Happy Valentine's Day to ME!!

Skylar surprised me this morning with the new Bosch Universal Plus! Now, if you know my husband at all, you will understand how HUGE this is! He even bought the blender and got the cookie paddles for free. I am still amazed that he did that for me, especially for Valentine's Day because he hates this holiday more than any other! He thinks its silly that he is supposed to show how much he loves me on just one day out of the year, but what a great excuse to spoil me! I love you Skylar and thank you for the wonderful gift!

Football Sized Baby

Little Maylee went to her first doctor's appointment on Tuesday and weighed in at 4 lbs 14oz. I had to take a picture of her next to this football to really show what an almost 5 lb baby looks like. The football is deflated, but you get the idea. I even got her to smile :) She has been such a good baby, just sleeping and eating. She rarely cries and has become more alert during the short time she is awake. We have really enjoyed her!

I was able to capture a few photos of Maylee with her eyes open! She is such a sweet baby and we love having her in our family. The kids really like holding her and enjoy helping me change her diaper. Its been fun, even though she is only a week old. Sorry, the last picture is blurry but I had to include her cute bow I tried glueing to her head.
