I have not decided on whether to give my children the swine flu vaccination. I need some thoughts from you guys. My husband will be getting it, but he's a fire fighter and that is a no brainer because he works very close to the general public. So why is it so hard for me to want to give it to my kids?!
Slade is in preschool now and can bring home all sorts of germs. He also has Asthma... He has never had the regular flu vaccination because I am scared of him getting Guillain-Barre' Syndrome. My brother, Austin, got that when he was 15 years old and it was very scary. He is now getting ready to leave for his mission and is doing great, but he was paralyzed and in a wheel chair for a while. Its not hereditary but the thought of it freaks me out.
Daisy has had the regular flu vaccination but she was born early and after talking with her doctor, we decided she needed the added protection. She didn't get the flu last year...
Maylee has not had the vaccination. I just want to know your thoughts and if you are going to get it or have your children receive it. Thanks!

My opinion is don't do it. The flu shot is only supposed to protect you from one strain. You may not even get that strain. I used to get it every year and my kids- but stopped 2 yrs. ago. There are just too many cons to it and additives that are not necessarily good for your body. My girls are all sick right now with some flu virus and they are getting through it just fine. You should read enlightenedhomemaker.blogspot She has some references to articles you can read. My ob recommended I get both flu shots and I said no way. I'm not injecting my body with 2 viruses with only weeks to go. Good luck with your decision.
I will give my kids the reg flu shot, if I can find a clinic to take them to, but probably not the swine flu. I feel like they are hyping the swine flu thing up SO much! Parents just need to responsible and not send their kids to school sick, teach them to cover their mouth/nose when they sneeze and wash wash wash their hands. Since I can only teach my kids I'll do the best I can to protect them with hand sanitizer and wiping down grocery carts. Good luck with your decision!
Nope... I agree with Latisha. Read the blog she sent you so you can end up making your own decision She's got lots of good stuff, but I am completely against it. I to think they are hyping the swine flu thing up to It's a money thing!! Just my thoughts, but you need to do what you feel is best for your kids.
Not I! I too, agree that the media has blown the whole thing out of proportion. And who wants to get a shot that makes you feel like crap for the next few days anyway!??! It's like getting a vaccination for a runny nose when you're still at risk for a sore throat or a nasty cough.
I dont even get the regular flu shots for my kids. My pediatrician also told me that it only protects against 1 or 2 strains of the flu and those certain ones may not even be the ones going around.
That's so scary what happened to your brother!
I went today and got my kids the regular flu shot at their check ups. I was asking my doctor about it and he said it prevents 3 or 4 kinds of stains, the ones that were most popular last year are the ones they put to prevent this year. So obviously there are some that are still out there. I honestly have found that the years that we haven't gotten them we are sick for weeks a few times and the years we do get it we are only sick maybe once. I don't know who is right or wrong...
don't do it!
I am personally not going to do it. I have been against getting regular flu shots for years, mostly because you always seem to get sick even if you get the shots!
I think the media has hyped it up so much too! Call me crazy, but I believe in the old-school ways: Wash your hands, stay home if you are sick, eat healthy, and drink plenty of water.
Either way - I would just say to do what you feel is best for your kiddos.
My mother in law has lupus and she was told by her doctor that the lupus foundation is recommending to NOT get the vaccine especially since there is no long term testing. I agree. I am very slow with normal vaccines too. I will be getting the flu shot because I just cant take getting the flu again. 3 times last winter/spring. I cant take care of my kids while sick, but kids get over it easier so mine will not get the vaccine.
Good luck. Oh, but asthmatics are supposed to get the vaccine. Somthing to think about.
I am up in the air about it. I have gotten me and my kids vaccinated the since I can remember. But it seems to me this year there are a few people that i know that have gotten really sick from the regular flu shot itself. I am not getting the swine flu I don't feel that it has been properly tested on people. I am not a sceptic about vaccines though I do all of them on schedule without hesitation. My kids are healthy, so are we. Everyone is different good luck!
