Yup, that is what it is called! Our little Daisy has gotten mosquito bites on her legs that have turned into big, swollen, blistering, oozy sores and have left scars! At first we thought that she may have been bitten by a spider, but we realized they were mosquito bites when we swatted the mosquito off of her and then a day or so later, she would have this awful sore in the same spot.
This past Tuesday, the kids and I were outside in the front yard helping Skylar trim the trees when we started seeing mosquito's, so I took the kids inside. I got several bites on my legs, but didn't notice any bites on the kids. The next morning I noticed that Daisy had a bite on her eyelid on her right eye, and one in her left eyebrow. By Wednesday night, her right eyelid started swelling. Thursday morning when she woke up, she could hardly open her eye! She was then nicknamed Quasimodo!! I then looked up mosquito allergies and this is what I found:
Mosquitoes are flying, biting insects that are closely related to flies and gnats. Only the female mosquito feeds on humans, and she needs a blood meal in order to produce eggs. During a feeding, the female mosquito bites the human skin, and injects saliva. The saliva contains various proteins that prevent the blood from clotting, as well as proteins that keep the blood flowing into the mosquito’s mouth.
Many of the mosquito saliva proteins can cause immune reactions, including allergic reactions. Typically, however, most people have a variety of reactions to mosquito bites, and the symptoms change over time, depending on the amount of bites a person received. These reactions can include both immediate and delayed swelling and itching around the bite area. These reactions tend to decrease in frequency after being bitten by mosquitoes over many years.
Generally, people with the above described reactions are not diagnosed as being “mosquito allergic." This term is reserved for people with more severe or unusual reactions, such as those described below.
More Severe Reactions to Mosquito Bites: "Skeeter Syndrome"
More severe reactions -- rather than the typical itchy red bump experienced by most people as a result of a mosquito bite -- occur less commonly. These may result in blistering rashes, bruises, or large areas of swelling at the bite sites. People who experience extremely large areas of swelling after a mosquito bite (such as swelling of most of an arm or leg, for example) have been dubbed as having "Skeeter Syndrome."
In rare situations, some people may experience anaphylaxis after being bitten by mosquitoes. Other people may have experienced whole body urticaria and angioedema (hives and swelling), or worsening of asthma symptoms after being bitten. Typically, these symptoms occur within minutes after a mosquito bite, compared to Skeeter Syndrome, which may take hours to days to occur.
I'm not the type of mom to rush my kid to the DR, so she has not been diagnosed with this, but I'm thinking it could be a possibility. The sores are really gross and really seem to bother her. I ended up giving her a little Benadryl and this morning the swelling is gone, but the bite is clearly still there. Does anyone else have this or may have heard of it?

Sorry for starting the nickname... Atleast she is still a freaking cute girl even with a jacked-up eye :) Love you guys! - and yes, I love how Kayci makes me update but does not do it herself.
Poor Daisy!! I hope it doesn't last too long! In that second pic she really looks like Slade. Oh by the way, the book on my blog is from the library! However, I liked it so much I'll probably buy it eventually. It was so great!
I usually get huge red bumps that end up looking like bruises from mosquito bites. They hurt SO bad! Poor Daisy! I'm glad the Benadryl helped. She's still cute as ever with swollen shut eyes and puffy brows!
Now get off my back about posting- I've been BUSY!
Poor thing! Payton gets eaten alive while none of us get any bites ever! But she never swells that bad. At least she looks happy like its not bugging her too much! Good luck and if you find a good repellent let me know!
Poor girl. I have the same problem. I would get biten anywhere on my upper body and my eyes would swell shut for a couple days. Benadryl works wonders keep it in stock. She's still really cute with the swollen eyes and her hair is getting so long.
I have never heard of such a thing crazy and sad for her. I hate those bugs. She still is so cute even with a swollen eyelid. Oh remind me when I see you to tell you a story about rustin and girl clothes!
Poor girl. I have to agree the swollen eye is kinda cute! Crazy! I've never even heard of this happening with mosquito bites! OUCH!
